HDR is hiring a Transportation Hydraulics Engineer to work in our Flowood, MS office and will work as a key member of a hydraulic/ water resource design team for moderate to large projects and serve as a task lead/project engineer on small to large projects. This position can also be based in Mobile or Birmingham, AL

Primary Responsibilities

  • Preparation of the following hydraulic design work using local or national standards: hydrology and hydraulic analysis, scour assessments, roadway drainage design, erosion and sediment pollution control design, stormwater management design.
  • May also be responsible for preparing specifications and estimates, erosion and sediment pollution control plans, drainage profiles, and post-construction stormwater management plans.
  • May assist in preparing scopes, budgets and schedules including day to day communication (verbal and written) with the client
  • May support and advise junior engineers and technical staff
  • Write reports and technical memos
  • Coordinate with subconsultants
  • Keep projects on schedule and within budget
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline
  • PE license
  • Minimum of 5 years of transportation hydraulic/water resource engineering design experience
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, SMS/SRH-2D, etc.) or other design software as appropriate
  • Previous work experience with an A/E/C Engineering firm
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering or other engineering discipline
  • Experience in the Mississippi/Alabama marketplace
  • Task Manager for water resources
  • Experience in Storm and Sanitary, Microstation OpenRoads Designer, PondPack, HydroCAD, HY-8, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS Pro, and GeoPak
