Huntsman is seeking a Production Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in McIntosh, Alabama. This position will report to the Manager, Production.

Job Scope

This position has the principal plant responsibility for the technical support, monitoring and improvement of units and products assigned to ensure they are operated and produced in accordance with established procedures and within acceptable limits. Performs general process engineering duties as directed and assists in any plant operational area as required.

As the Production Engineer you will:

With minimal supervision and moderate decision-making

  • Serve as the principal technical advisor to production, management, process improvement teams and other plant support groups within area(s) of responsibility as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of daily unit operations ensuring quality, efficiency and minimal waste. Takes lead role in troubleshooting/process improving, quality or equipment abnormalities. Works with production and laboratory to establish operating conditions and sample schedules as necessary to conduct test runs, new product startups and other process improvement activities. Participate in PHA studies as assigned. May assist technical team on Productivity projects and New Product Introduction.
  • Responsible for material balancing of assigned processes to include raw materials, products, and waste streams. Uses Lean / Six Sigma tools to optimize processes where possible.
  • Perform economic studies, mass and energy balances, environmental release and other process engineering calculations as required.
  • Document process changes, significant improvements/problems, test run results, catalyst events, etc. in accordance with current procedures and practices of the production department.
  • Provide management information and recommendations on evolving technologies. Prepare project scopes of work, justification and design process and equipment specifications as necessary. Follow special projects with upgrades through equipment selection, construction, operator training, startup and post audit to insure proper operation.
  • Monitor efforts in the site to ensure compliance with all elements of Process Safety Management, monitors safe handling, identification, storage, and removal of hazardous waste streams resulting from production activities.

Other general responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Process Owner for the lines/processes he or she is assigned.
  • Troubleshoots assigned lines/process and identifies and implements measures to prevent recurrence of underperforming lines or downtime.
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by Production Manager.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with 1-5 years of specific working experience.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • Must have good oral and written skills.
  • Advanced PC skills a plus.
