Job Description Summary | The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA) at Auburn University invites applications for a one year (nine month/two semester) non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position in Architecture with teaching responsibilities in both history/theory and design studio, commencing August 2024. APLA has a 118-year history of educating architects, interior architects, landscape architects and planners. The school contributes to the profession and to communities both locally and globally through creative work. APLA is comprised of four allied disciplines: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, and Landscape Architecture, and offers both Bachelor's and Master's degree options. The School resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building Science. The Architecture program seeks candidates who are interested in contributing to and extending the school's strong tradition of teaching and learning through conceptualization, visualization, fabrication , and construction. Candidates should have a strong interest in teaching design studio and the following topic areas: Position - History and Theory (with an emphasis on the interrelationship between history/theory and studio teaching) Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of the appointment include teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate for the position will be able to teach undergraduate architecture studios, lecture courses, and-or seminars/workshops. Candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an active program of scholarly and creative work within the discipline. APLA is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching , research, outreach, and service. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. |

Minimum Qualifications | Candidates must hold both a Ph.D. in history/theory and a Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture, or a Bachelor of Architecture and a terminal degree in a related field, at the time employment begins. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of employment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
