Job Description Summary
POSITION: The Department of Nutritional Sciences invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 16, 2024. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to perform teaching, research, and service as part of the position. The ideal candidate will have a strong nutritional biochemistry background and experience with and teaching to students in nutrition or related fields. This position requires the faculty member to:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate nutrition, dietetics, and nutritional biochemistry-related courses
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, and effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate a variety of instructional delivery methods, including on-line course delivery
  • Establish an independent research program that complements current research in the department. Examples of research areas that complement departmental strengths include, but are not limited to: nutrition, obesity, diabetes, cancer, neuroscience, and metabolic diseases
  • Seek intramural and extramural funding, publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, present research at conferences
  • Supervise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students

SETTING: The Department of Nutritional Sciences employs 11 faculty members and is an academic unit within the College of Human Sciences. The department offers a baccalaureate degree with program options in Nutrition Science, Dietetics, and Wellness, as well as master, and doctoral degree programs in Nutrition. Opportunities to engage in collaborative research are supported by the Auburn University Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Research Program, and the Auburn University Research Initiative in Cancer (AURIC). East Alabama Health, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) provide additional opportunities for translational research. Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in nutrition, biology, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, or related fields at the time employment begins. A demonstrated record of published research articles, and the potential to make substantial contributions as an independent investigator. Postdoctoral or independent research experience is required. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is desirable but is not required.
