This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and technicians within the Space System Development (SSD) business unit, you will contribute to the design of the flight software for future space systems operating in orbital and deep space environment. Within a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will contribute to developing fault tolerant flight software responsible for the overall command and control of a significant autonomous space system providing state-of-the-art space station services with Blue Origin Orbital Reef and NASA Commercial Destination Free Flyer (CDFF) program. This includes defining architectures and requirements, cross-functional activities with subsystem stakeholders, and development and verification. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration, and your dedicated commitment and detailed attention will further the cause of safe spaceflight as we build a road to space. You will create and maintain artifacts for flight software designs and present infrastructure and application flight software designs at gated reviews.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop subsystem management and Displays & Control application flight software

  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to define software concepts of operations, functions and requirements

  • Author unit tests, documentation, and participate in design and code reviews

  • Integrate Displays & Control applications with vehicle management applications

  • Develop and run unit tests, validate on cross-platform software testbed Hardware-in-the-Loop and simulator environment

  • Participate in design and code reviews, and status reporting

  • Present subsystem management application flight software designs at design and milestone reviews

  • Complete flight software demonstration at milestone for stakeholders and customers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, robotics engineering or equivalent engineering field
  • 4+ years of software development experience
  • Software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in C/C++
  • understanding of real-time embedded software development concepts
  • Experience in build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, deployment of software.
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary.
  • Experience with real time operating systems, such as VxWorks, Integrity, Embedded Linux or equivalent
  • Hands-on and theoretical understanding of software and computational science principles, concepts, algorithms, and engineering beyond tool use
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates typically have 5+ years of real-time embedded flight software design and development experience.

  • Experience working on avionics, satellite, space flight systems, or robotic systems

  • Experience in life cycle software development of real-time embedded system, including at least software design, development, and verification.

  • Some experience with avionics displays & control and libraries and tools such as OpenGL, GL Studio, or similar, certifiable to safety-critical standards

  • Experience with cross-platform development and hardware-in-the-loop testbed lab environments

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $129,690-$181,566

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $141,480-$198,072
